I didn't listen to him a lot (and quite frankly dislike a good deal), but he wrote some of my favorites and was definitely iconic in the folk-pop/folk-rock genre.
It is with profound sadness that we confirm that Gordon Meredith Lightfoot has passed away. Gordon died peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 730 p.m. at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. He died of natural causes. He was 84 years old.
He is survived by his wife Kim Hasse, six children– Fred, Ingrid, Eric, Galen, Miles and Meredith, as well as several grandchildren.
I rolled my eyes every time Dad put one of his records on (all of which I now have in my vinyl collection), but I do like a few of his songs. Those songs, his career and his quintessential "Canadian-ness" made him a Canadian institution. Canadian culture is richer for his legacy. Poorer in his passing.
He had a troubled past, but by most accounts he managed to turn that around in the 80s.
Fun fact... Sundown was written about his then-girlfriend Cathy Smith. Rumor was they used to have a 'violent' relationship. Anyway, Cathy Smith is currently best known for contributing to the death of John Belushi. (Robin Williams and Robert De Niro also took drugs with him that night, for what its worth).
OK... I take that back. That wasn't a fun fact at all.

He talks about this in the most recent documentary about him. He acknowledges that he wa a terrible person to be in a relationship with, and regretted how he treated many of the women he has been with. I've known some "artist" types (heck, I was related to one)... This is typical behavior for a significant number of those "artist" type people.

Lo, hubris.
Anyway, here's a meme that none of us should be laughing at.

Investigators did not identify the kind of pasta or sauce used in the alleged attack. It is also unclear if Goins was transporting his dinner (or leftovers) home or whether he regularly travels so armed.
Oh crap... yeah, don't mess around near power lines.
Did you ever have anyone near you set up one of those fake "guy falling down" or "guy permanently on ladder" light displays? The ones that use a mannequin or some other dummy to imitate either an accident or someone on a ladder even in bad weather? [sometimes they use a dummy of Santa Claus or the Grinch instead].
Well, anyway. Before I clicked the article I was expecting the story to be that the neighbors thought that the body was part of the Christmas display.

Would you hit that?
If given the chance? Yeah, probably.
Harassment Lawsuit filed against Rudy Giuliani.
Obviously this is just an allegation in a lawsuit. But I'd be surprised if this hadn't happened. It fits him to a goddamn T.

Holy crap I would have been put on probation so often as a kid.
...and as an adult.

I don't think Tucker is OK... Either he's just saying shit for notoriety, or he's really not OK.

I don't recall ever seeing a display like that.
Always stuff like this. Or Santa Claus hanging (or in a snowbank upside down).
